Score: 2 greats from the Goodwill

I went into our local Goodwill this past weekend and had a double score. While browsing through the CD collection (as I always do) pushing aside all the copies of the New Kids on the Block, various Christmas disks, and a rainbow of best of disks there laid a copy of Metallica's - Kill 'Em All and The Butthole Sufers - ElectricLarryLand. What a deal for $5.

New Music: "Always… With Wings" by Andy Freakin' Mabe

I recently got my hands on the local music master Andy Freakin' Mabe's new CD "Always... With Wings" and I have to say it's freakin' awesome. Completely self produced and I'm pretty sure Andy performs most of the tracks of the disk with a little help from a friend and his girlfriend.

I love the overall vibe of the entire disk."You'll be mine someday" is probably my favorite track with a nice reggae swing and whistling (secretly is one of my favorite instruments of all times).

Andy plays in several bands in the area from Allison King to Love Craft and several others including his One man band act. Check out his full calendar on his MySpace page.

Sessions with Decatur Street

Sticker
16 hours, 14 songs, =  112 tracks of the best indie rock i've jammed to in a while. This past weekend local band Decatur Street filled up Psyco-Sonic Sound Labs with all of their musical goodness. Look out for their new CD soon on iTunes or through their myspace page.

Band members:
Brent - Guitar/Vocals
Jason - Bass/Vocals
Crockett - Drums
Elliott - Guitar/Vocals

Equipment used during the sessions:
Guitars: Fender Stratocaster, Fender Jaguar, Gibson Les Paul Studio, Epiphone SG, Epiphone Flying "V", Ibanez Artwood.
Bass: Stadium violin style bass
Drums: Pearl Custom Exports, zildjian cymbals.
Amps: Mesa Boogie, Vox, Ampeg
Effects: I didn't get a good look at their cases but I noticed a ton of chrome so I'd put my money on there were some electro harmonix stomp boxes in there not sure what all else they have. I did see a Holy Grail Reverb and a Pi unit maybe there was a BigMuff in there too.

My latest song – Drawing Spider – Check it out!

I've finally gotten around to start uploading my new works. Here is the first in my web posts series.

I have have a huge drawing spider on my tomato plants. He just hangs out there catching bugs and eating them.
My tomato plants are becoming sick. Is it H1N1?

My favorite old dusty box of cassette tapes

Box of cassettes I was cleaning up the storage side of my studio the other day and ran across this old box full of cassette tapes. This was not just any box of old favorites from the 80's although it did contain my original copy of the Fat Boy's debut album, "The Fat Boys." What it did contain was close to 30 tapes filled to the brim with songs I have recorded over the past 15 years on my trusty old Tascam PortaONE 4-Track recorder.

I had to place my PortaONE away on a shelf about 4 years ago due to a broken drive belt :( . Good news is finding this box stimulated my search for replacement belts and to my luck the awesomeness of the worlds largest flea market "eBay" had a fella selling them. Factory fresh. They have not arrived yet but I do plan on posting my tear apart and install of said belts when they come in.

Digging deeper into my tiny treasure box of cassette tapes I found one tape that immediately jumped out at me. It was simply titled "Franklin." What's so special about this tape? NOTHING. But to me it's pure gold nostalgia from a past life circa '93-'96. My buddy Robert over at Treehouse Mobile Studio agreed to transfer the tape for me to CD. He has the equipment to keep the fidelity of this jewel in check for me. It's been a good 10 years since I've heard a lick off that tape and can't wait to hear it again.
