Fixing RockBand wireless guitar & drums on the PS3
In prep for the upcoming release of The Beatles: Rock Band video game we purchased the original 2007 special edition kit over the weekend. Erin's mad skills on CraigsList landed us an unopened RockBand Special Edition (has guitar, drums, microphone & game) for at least 30% less than the retail.
When we got it home and started to put everything together all seamed simple enough. Started up the game and the only controller it would see was the microphone. Documentation for this fix was really hard to find so I'm posting it here as well in hopes that Google will index this for others.
If you are experiencing an issue where your wireless guitar and drums will still control general movement throughout the game with the d-pad and x,o, square, triangle buttons but will NOT allow you to play the game with them. The fix is easy. With the last update to Sony's PS3 Software something has happened that reassigns the controller ID of both the guitar & drums to ID 7, and 8. You simply need to reassign each back to ID 1, and 2. Here are the steps to do this.
You must perform these steps with each controller.
- Hit the "PS" button
- Go to the System settings menu
- Scroll down to Accessory settings
- Choose "Change controller ID"
