My favorite old dusty box of cassette tapes
I was cleaning up the storage side of my studio the other day and ran across this old box full of cassette tapes. This was not just any box of old favorites from the 80's although it did contain my original copy of the Fat Boy's debut album, "The Fat Boys." What it did contain was close to 30 tapes filled to the brim with songs I have recorded over the past 15 years on my trusty old Tascam PortaONE 4-Track recorder.
I had to place my PortaONE away on a shelf about 4 years ago due to a broken drive belt
. Good news is finding this box stimulated my search for replacement belts and to my luck the awesomeness of the worlds largest flea market "eBay" had a fella selling them. Factory fresh. They have not arrived yet but I do plan on posting my tear apart and install of said belts when they come in.
Digging deeper into my tiny treasure box of cassette tapes I found one tape that immediately jumped out at me. It was simply titled "Franklin." What's so special about this tape? NOTHING. But to me it's pure gold nostalgia from a past life circa '93-'96. My buddy Robert over at Treehouse Mobile Studio agreed to transfer the tape for me to CD. He has the equipment to keep the fidelity of this jewel in check for me. It's been a good 10 years since I've heard a lick off that tape and can't wait to hear it again.
