Jamming as the Beatles

beatles-rock-bandI must say The Beatles RockBand is by far one of the best games I've played in a long long time. The animations are very well done, the sound quality is top notch, and the game play is really fun.

The best part is my 7 year old (Addison) long time Beatles fan, can tear up some drums. He has dubbed himself "Ringo" too. We make the best band on the planet shredding up at least 97% each with 150 note runs - on easy :)

We've only put a few hours of play into the game and it appears we have not even scratched the surface of all the possibilities.

Yea I’m a Propellerheads.se Record beta tester

propellerhead-record-logoI got my email today stating that I'm an official beta tester for Propellerheads Software's new product "Record." This is really exciting (at least for me). I can't wait to get home and install this.

Propellerheads are the champions of some great music composition software for both the Mac and PC. I've been an avid follower of their tools for years. Starting way back in college using Rebirth. This is by far my favorite tool to use in my studio for softsynth sounds. I've waited a long time for Propellerhead to develop a multitrack recording software that integrates with Reason. Especially since all of their apps have played nicely with the Line6 products. I'll post my findings as I play.

Impressions of the iPhone 3GS, plus my favorite apps

So I've had my new iPhone for a few weeks now as an upgrade from my first Generation iPhone. I must say this thing is lightning fast compared to my old model. I was afraid I wouldn't really notice any real speed boost between the Edge and 3G network but man I was wrong.

So far my favorite applications are:
Apple provided apps: Calendar, Camera, Maps, Weather, App Store, Mail, Safari, Contacts, & iPod

Downloaded apps I run: TweetDeck, Ping.fm, Facebook, WordPress, AIM, Bible, Craigsphone, eBay, Evernote, Google, Google Earth, FourTrack, iShred, iTick, OmniTuner, Checkers, Cro-Mag, Remote, MouthOff, myLite, Skype, VNC, keynote Remote, AT&T myWireless, WiFi HD lite

Believe it or not ,I do use them all. What's your favorite apps?

Install Boxee On your AppleTV

boxee_logoBoxee is sort of this really cool social network for streaming Video, photos etc. to your laptop or HDTV. I personally enjoy using it in conjunction with my AppleTV to add streaming content and expand it's capabilities.

Sorry but, I'm a true blood Mac dude so my instructions will be for a Mac.

The Windows instructions are available through the links I'm providing.

First you will need to create a patch stick that will allow you to install the boxee as well as a few other resources to allow everything to work correctly.
I use the atvusb-creator. You will need a thumb drive that is at least 512MB by their instructions. I actually used a 256MB drive and all worked perfectly.
Follow the steps for creating your patch stick.

Take your patch stick and place it in the USB slot on the back of your AppleTV and hold down minus (-) and the Menu button on the AppleTV remote
to reboot the device. If this step is done properly, you will see the system reboot. Instead of the Apple during boot you will see the Linux mascot "Tux" sitting
on an AppleTV. Then you will see the output of the installation. Read through the output and check that there were no errors. If not your good to go.

Head over to Boxee and set yourself up an account. You will need to set you credentials before you can enter Boxee.

You will notice that there are some new choices in the AppleTV menu. I always run the updates from that menu to ensure that everything is compatible with the current OS on the AppleTV. Typically when Apple releases a new version of the AppleTV OS Boxee may or May not break. If so then just redo the steps above.

If you need further assistance Boxee has created a more detailed version of this install on their Wiki site http://wiki.boxee.tv/AppleTV_Installation.

Good luck playing with your AppleTV

Creating PDF’s Dynamically with PHP

Today I had a project that required me to tap into a preexisting gallery of images and generate a PDF document from those images. Lucky for me there was already an XML file pointing to all those images which made the job a tid bit easier. The workflow is as follows.

1. loop through the XML file and extract all the images and put them in a variable.

2. Use the variable to finish out the string to each Image
2. Push that info through Cezpdf class to do all the heaving lifting and create our PDF for us.
3. Test
4. We're done.
